July 2 – 4 : Arenal

Students will have the opportunity to connect with family upon arriving in Costa Rica. The group will begin the tech-free period following the program orientation.

The program begins with a three-day stay at a sustainable eco-lodge near the Arenal Volcano called Rancho Margot. Our group will indulge in delicious, fresh food grown in the organic gardens on the property, enjoy a guided ranch and botanical garden tour, and learn about how the ranch produces its own energy. Take a yoga class, relax in a hammock, swim in the pool, and bond as a group. Build hands-on skills and acquire a basic understanding of regenerative agriculture, composting and gardening, beekeeping, and soil biology. Explore the surrounding area with Rancho Margot’s professional guides on foot, and explore the volcanic lake by kayak. Go out on a night hike, and enjoy an evening soak in the natural hot springs together with your group.

July 5 – 13: Parcelas de Monseñor

From Rancho Margot, travel by bus to our small host community located in a fertile valley in northern Costa Rica. Work together with the local community to complete a series of construction, educational, and agricultural projects. Spend afternoons and evenings immersing yourself in the local culture through activities such as hiking to the nearby river, playing fútbol with Costa Rican friends, or joining local women in the kitchen to learn how to prepare traditional dishes. Take a day trip from your community and spend an afternoon riding rapids on the Sarapiqui River. During the stay in the host community, the group will stay in a rented, unfurnished cement-built house near the center of the community.

The tech-free period of the program will end on July 9.

July 14 & 15: Playa Hermosa

Say goodbye to your host community and travel to the Pacific Coast in Guanacaste for two nights. Explore the beaches, take a surfing lesson, reflect on your experience in Costa Rica, and enjoy a final evening with your group before traveling home.

July 16: Return Day, Liberia to Miami
